Tips for Getting Your Garden Summer-Ready

With summer on the horizon, now is the time to start preparing your garden for the best season of the year.

By acting early, it will allow you to maximise the time you can spend outside soaking up the sun and enjoying being out in your own bit of nature.

Here are a few ways to get your backyard summer-ready.

Garden Tips for Summer

Spring Clean
The harsh winter months will have left your garden looking unkempt, bleak and neglected. Spend time giving it a thorough spring cleaning, which will include trimming back hedges and trees, weeding, mowing the lawn to a neat length and collecting and disposing of all the debris. Now that it is looking much tidier, you can begin work on making it a welcoming and attractive place to be.

Fence, Shed & Gate
Your perimeter fence, shed and gate will also be looking worse for wear after months of heavy wind and rain. Clean all of these off, treat them and apply a fresh coat of paint; this will make a huge difference to the appearance of the entire area.

To really improve your garden, you should consider replacing your decking as this will transform the entire space and make it much brighter and more appealing. Timber decking is always a fantastic land natural look, but you could also consider composite decking and you may also need matching handrails. Suppliers like Travis Perkins will have the widest variety and everything you need to complete the project.

Now that the space is looking bright, fresh and welcoming, you will want to set up a social area and space for relaxing. Get your garden furniture out of the shed and clean it (or invest in new items) and set this up on your new decking. You will want a table and a few chairs (at least) to do this. Wheel the BBQ out and get it cleaned so you are ready to host the first garden party of the year.

Finishing Touches
Finally, you will want to add colour and personality to your backyard. Pick out new plants and flowers to grow over summer, add some decorative touches, purchase some outdoor lighting and potentially a chiminea so that you can continue to enjoy being outside long after the sun sets.

There are few thing more enjoyable during summer than spending time in the garden either by yourself or with a few friends. Now is the time to start preparing for the warmer months and the above steps will help to create an attractive, welcoming and peaceful space.
